About the Experience

Join your guides as they delve underground to uncover the culinary scene in San Francisco’s North Beach through the story of the Barbary Coast – the most notorious neighborhood in America during the Gold Rush. The food tour begins with a delicious appetizer and then continues through Little Italy with San Francisco’s best artisan pizza or eggplant Parmesan made in a traditional Italian Restaurant. Finish with dessert with your own cannoli at a historic Italian bookstore turned dessert cafe! All the while, meet restaurant owners and chefs, and visit the hidden underground tunnel remnants where booze and politicians were smuggled in and out all through Prohibition. Be sure to bring your appetite!

About Avital Tours

Avital Tours prides themselves on being not just a tour company, but a culinary experience company that provides a behind-the-scenes snapshot of famous neighborhoods by telling their stories through their people and great food (and drink, of course!). The walking food tours are built by locals for locals, with the goal of having someone who lives in the Mission, for example, come on the Mission Food Tour and learn something about their own neighborhood. You will be taken back into kitchens, spend time chatting with chefs and restaurant owners, and create unique food and alcohol pairings – and above all, hear the stories that shape a neighborhood! You’re sure to have a one-of-a-kind VIP experience at each location that you couldn’t have achieved otherwise.
